Winter Wonderland
If you’re living in the southern hemisphere, you’re starting to feel the summer chill. Where I am (Sydney), we’ve been blessed with clear skies and sunny days for the last month. In recent days the chill has come. There’s no more bikini clad days, park picnics, ice cream, beach days, hot days, a tear is coming to my eye. Pull out your coats, cashmere twin sets and plaid skirts; if winter does bring something good, it’s style. My major problem with winter is there is absolutely nothing to do, so it leaves me with all my styling’ winter clothes at home, bored as Betty. So, I discussed the incoming gloom with some of my friends and inspired by our conversation I garnered some fun things to do in the winter times.
Movies. Grab your girl friends, heat the popcorn, warm the cocoa and fluff the rugs. Have a movie night. Dress: pyjamas. Make sure you have a list of movies to watch, everyone hates that 30-minute decision time. Or, have your own little movie night, with yourself. Sometimes there’s nothing more relaxing than sipping a camomile tea while watching one of your old faves, by yourself. Another movie option – go to the movies! This way you can dress up in your winter gear and you can see a new flick with your friends.
Ski Trip. Those whom live in the northern hemisphere – I am incredibly jealous of your slopes. However a ski trip is always fun. Bring it up with your family and plan to go the same time as your friends. Or go with the school, or a program. If you’re older, find some friends (preferably one with a car) and hit the road.
Shop. Put on your cutest outfit and hit the town. Alone or with your friends shopping is enjoyable in winter. It’s not too hot and when you get cold, you can always walk into another heated store. Win, win.
Fashion Show. After you’ve bought clothes, invite the girls back to yours and have a fashion show showcasing all your new buys. Play some music and serve some champagne w. chocolate for bonus points.
Dinner Party. Dinner parties are so much fun. I find that they never really happen in summer but amp up in winter. Have a dress theme or not, it will be a ball! And for desert, light a fire and roast marshmallows. (Be responsible.)
Bake dates. Call your girlfriends over and make some warm brownies or other delicious treats, or hold a competition: e.g. who makes the best hot chocolate. Or, invite over your special someone (to be) we guarantee a ‘flour fight’.
Beauty Day. Again, you can do this solo or a la amies. Raid your cupboard for all natural ingredients like avocados, honey, oatmeal and more. You can make scrubs and masks, or use pre-made ones and pamper yourself or take turns with your friends.
Exercise. In summer it’s just too hot to exercise. In winter it is way more motivating, cause you need to run to keep warm. Dress in your skimpiest work out gear and run till you’re in a sauna.
Hot tub. Convince your parents into getting or renting a hot tub, or go to a friend’s and use theirs. Hot tubs are so much fun in winter, especially at night. Heck, throw a hot-tub party!
Hmm, winter isn’t sounding all that bad, is it?
